Improvements are now underway at three much-loved parks and play areas in Walsall, following a successful community campaign to enhance local green spaces.
Backed by £470,000 in funding from Local Trust and delivered on behalf of One Palfrey Big Local, the project was shaped by resident feedback that identified key areas in need of investment. Work is now in full swing to revamp Palfrey Park, Bescot Crescent, and the Rutter Street arena.
At Palfrey Park, the play area is being extended with four new pieces of play equipment and a brand-new seating area, creating a more welcoming space for families and children to enjoy.
Meanwhile, both Bescot Crescent and Rutter Street play areas are being fully refurbished. Outdated equipment is being removed and replaced with modern, accessible alternatives. The Rutter Street sports arena is also being resurfaced, with new basketball posts installed and unused lighting columns taken down.
Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council, welcomed the improvements:
“I am very excited to see these improvements delivered.
“This work will give our young people better places to enjoy and socialise in inclusive environments. I am very thankful for all those involved in making this happen.
“Once complete I would encourage our residents to make use of the facilities and look after them.”
The project is being delivered by RFC Construction, appointed by Walsall Council, in partnership with One Palfrey Big Local and Local Trust.

“This is one of our legacy projects and we’re so pleased this work is now underway. We look forward to seeing the works complete for children and families to enjoy, just in time for the summer holidays.”

“Our collaborative efforts aim to provide improved facilities for families of all ages.”
The work is expected to be completed by the end of July, just in time for the school holidays.
