Fibbersley Local Nature Reserve in Willenhall has recently undergone a significant transformation, thanks to a £75,000 grant from Veolia Environmental Trust.
What’s New at Fibbersley?
The project has delivered a range of upgrades aimed at improving access, enhancing visitor experience, and supporting long-term conservation. Key improvements include:

Over 750 metres of new, accessible pathways, replacing uneven ground and old steps with a smooth, easy-to-use ramp

New gates to improve security and accessibility

An updated site map and ladder board to help visitors navigate the reserve

Targeted vegetation management in woodland areas to support healthy habitats

Dredging of a key pond to improve conditions for amphibians and other aquatic species
Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council, praised the project:
“We have a wide array of green spaces in Walsall, and any improvements to make them more accessible should be celebrated.
With the good weather, I would encourage anyone to get out there and explore what Walsall has to offer.”
The enhancements were delivered by Walsall Council in partnership with the Friends of Fibbersley Local Nature Reserve, a group of dedicated local volunteers who help care for and promote the site.
Lesley, a member of the Friends group, said:
“The new paths are mud-free in the winter and such a pleasure to walk around these days.”
Clive, another volunteer, added:
“There are more than 73 species of birds on the reserve and now is such a good time to visit – hopefully we will see you at the reserve.”
