Work has begun on a major programme of improvements at King George V Playing Fields in Bloxwich, marking a key milestone in the delivery of regeneration plans for the area.
The project forms part of the wider Bloxwich Town Deal, a government-funded initiative aimed at investing in local infrastructure, public spaces and community facilities. The playing fields scheme is one of several projects designed to enhance quality of life for residents and create more opportunities for recreation and community activity.
Planned improvements include the construction of a new pavilion to replace the existing facility, alongside upgraded changing rooms and toilet facilities. The development will also introduce an artificial sports pitch and multi-use games areas, creating more opportunities for organised sport and informal physical activity.
In addition to sports facilities, the plans include improvements to landscaping and public spaces within the park, as well as changes to parking provision aimed at easing pressure on surrounding residential streets.
The start of construction follows the approval of planning permission earlier in the year and the appointment of a contractor to deliver the scheme. Work is expected to continue throughout 2026, with completion anticipated in 2027.
During the construction period, some areas of the park will be affected, and temporary arrangements will be put in place to manage access and minimise disruption where possible.
The council has said the improvements are intended to create a modern, accessible and sustainable facility that can be used by residents, sports groups and the wider community for years to come.
