Passengers using Sutton Coldfield station are now greeted by a colourful new addition, thanks to a community-driven project celebrating local wildlife and creativity.
A vibrant gallery of nature-themed artwork has been unveiled on the station’s platforms, with each piece created by pupils from nearby Whitehouse Common Primary School. The images, which feature a range of animals and countryside scenes, were designed to brighten the station and reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
The initiative is the result of a partnership between West Midlands Railway, the Community Rail Partnership, and The Friends of Sutton Coldfield Station group, who have worked together to bring the project to life.
Lucy Wootton, head of the Community Rail Partnership, said:
“We are so proud of this latest installation which will brighten the platform for our customers and celebrate the biodiversity of our local environment.”
The artwork is the latest in a series of improvements at the station, led by The Friends of Sutton Coldfield Station—an active group of local volunteers who are committed to enhancing the station environment for both travellers and the wider community.
Phil Bateman MBE, chairman of the Friends group, said:
“Our volunteers are passionate about improving the station environment for all passengers and this latest installation really brings a smile to your face as you walk down the platform.”
The new gallery not only adds a splash of colour to the station but also highlights the importance of engaging young people in community projects and environmental awareness. With the help of local schoolchildren, the station has become a place that reflects both pride and creativity in the local area.
