Operation Prosper: 20 Arrests Made in Ongoing Crime Crackdown

A dedicated police initiative, Operation Prosper, launched on April 15, 2025, has led to 20 arrests in Walsall town centre within its first three weeks. The operation targets organised crime, anti-social behaviour, and youth violence, aiming to enhance community safety and public confidence.

Funded by £25,000 from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and an additional £20,000 from the local police budget, Operation Prosper comprises a team of five officers and a sergeant. Their patrols focus on hotspots such as the market area, the canal near Gallery Square, and Park Street Arcade. Since its inception, the team has recovered stolen vehicles, seized weapons including knives and knuckle dusters, and conducted drug raids.

PCC Simon Foster said:

“The launch of Operation Prosper is a clear message to criminals that their actions will not be tolerated in Walsall. By working in partnership with West Midlands Police, I am committed to preventing and tackling crime, promoting community safety and keeping the people, families, businesses and local community safe and secure.

“This targeted approach will not only address immediate concerns, but will also contribute to long-term solutions that build a stronger, more resilient community.

“Rebuilding community policing remains at the very top of my agenda. We need accessible, reassuring and visible policing out on the streets. We are determined to make Walsall a safer place for everyone.”

Operation Prosper is scheduled to run for 12 weeks, with ongoing assessments to determine its effectiveness and inform future policing strategies in Walsall.
