Walsall Town Hall will host its first British citizenship ceremony since the COVID-19 lockdown next week, marking a significant return to in-person celebrations for new citizens.
On Monday, 13 January 2025, 63 residents will be granted British citizenship in a special ceremony officiated by the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris, and the Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, David Frost.
While previous ceremonies have taken place at Walsall’s Register Office, the move to the Town Hall, which has stood since 1903, will provide a more memorable setting for the occasion.
During the ceremony, the new citizens will take an oath or affirmation of allegiance and make a pledge to respect the rights, freedoms, and laws of the UK. Each individual will then be presented with their citizenship certificate and have the opportunity to take photographs with the Mayor.
“This is a truly special occasion for all involved. Becoming a British citizen is a significant milestone, and we are honoured to welcome these individuals to our community. Walsall is a diverse and welcoming borough, and we are proud to celebrate this important moment with our new citizens,” said Councillor Anthony Harris, Mayor of Walsall.
The event will be an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the growing diversity of the borough while marking a major milestone for those who will officially become British citizens.
