Walsall Council is encouraging residents to support local independent businesses this Small Business Saturday (6 December 2025), as the borough prepares for the busy festive shopping period.
Part of a national campaign, Small Business Saturday celebrates the vital role that independent traders play in local communities and high streets. From family-run shops to cafés, salons and service providers, small businesses are central to Walsall’s economy and identity.
Figures show that of the 895 retail businesses in the borough, 99.4% are classed as micro businesses or SMEs, underlining their importance in driving local growth and creating vibrant neighbourhoods.

Residents are being encouraged to shop locally, discover independent traders and share their experiences online using #ShopWalsall and #SmallBizSatUK.
Local markets offer a great place to start, with regular trading days across the borough:
- Walsall Market (Park Street) – Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (8.30am–5pm)
- Willenhall Market (Market Place) – Wednesday, Friday, Saturday (9am–4pm)
- Bloxwich Market (Market Place) – Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (9am–4pm)
The council continues to work with partners and local businesses to strengthen Walsall’s high streets through regeneration, improved public spaces and ongoing support for business growth.
By choosing to shop local this festive season, residents can play a direct role in supporting the borough’s independent businesses and helping them to thrive.
