Digbeth Dining Club – 6 July

The popular and award-winning Digbeth Dining Club is on tour this summer with a pit-stop at Walsall Arboretum on Saturday, 6 July 2024.

Running from 12pm to 7pm and costing £4 for adults and £2.50 for children, the event is renowned for its variety of foods from around the world, including Thai, Indian, Jamaican and much more.

Classic Car Show – 14  July

The Classic Car Show is back between 10am-4pm on Sunday, 14 July 2024 featuring a host of classic vehicles, music, food and drink. They’ll also be children’s entertainment, RC truck racing and fairground rides.

Bubble Rush – 21 July

From 10am to 3pm on Sunday 21, July 2024 join this family-friendly event as you run, walk or skip your way around Walsall Arborteum taking time to stop at one of four coloured bubble stations for some foamy fun.

Tickets vary in price with all proceeds going to the Acorn’s Children Hospice.

SPAR Pelsall launches SPARAOKE Saturdays

The SPAR store in Pelsall is hosting a unique chance to win a basket of shopping*, as well as the chance to win a month’s worth of groceries, just by singing karaoke!

SPARaoke starts on Saturday 6 July, coinciding with the Pelsall Carnival, with another session on Saturday 13 July.

To join in the fun, simply:

1. Head to the Pelsall SPAR.

2. Listen for the claxon and an iconic song over the in-store radio.

3. Head to the checkout, grab the mic and sing along for 30 seconds or more.

There will be one winner per song played, and all winners will be entered into a prize draw to win a months’ worth of food shopping.

A spokesperson for SPAR said: ‘We know that most champions belong on the world sporting stage, but we also know that champions secretly live within local communities. So, whilst you may not be getting a medal this summer, you can definitely feel the rush of being your local SPARaoke champion with SPAR!’.

Europe’s leading patchwork and quilting event returns to Birmingham NEC from 1-4 August 2024 with a bumper line-up of features that include special guest appearances from international quilting artists (including Jenny Doan!), hundreds of craft brands, an incredible workshop, a talks and lectures programme and much more!

Visitors can look forward to spectacular galleries by some of the world’s leading quilt artists, including Amy Pabst, Caroline Oneta and Sarah Hibbert. This year’s exhibition from The Quilt Collection boasts an impressive collection of late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century pieces, several of which have never been publicly exhibited before.

New for 2024, a special retrospective exhibition will feature a selection of “Visitors’ Choice’ winning quilts from The Festival of Quilts competition from the last two decades, giving visitors the opportunity to view some of their favourite quilts once again.

The Festival of Quilts also offers Europe’s biggest workshop and talks programme featuring international tutors, including Jor Cunningham and Gregory Jay Barner.

More than 200 specialist craft retailers will be on site, with exhibitors from across the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Japan.

Excitement builds for Pelsall Carnival this weekend

Pelsall is buzzing with excitement as the annual Pelsall Carnival draws near, set to take place on Saturday, July 6. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, offering a day full of festivities, entertainment, and community spirit.

A day full of fun

Starting at 10 AM, the carnival will feature numerous stalls and sideshows, with live entertainment beginning at 12pm from local performers, including the Pelsall Ladies Choir and the Lichfield Rock Choir.

A procession of floats, which have been central to the carnival celebrations, will begin at approximately 12.30-1pm.

Pelsall Common will be transformed into a bustling fairground, complete with rides and traditional stalls, and for those seeking a bit of friendly competition, the carnival will host a dog show with categories such as a “waggiest tail” and “most appealing eyes”. You can book your dog into the competition from 12pm.

Supporting local charities

The Pelsall Carnival is not just about fun and entertainment; it’s also an opportunity to support local charities and community groups. Many of the stalls and activities will be run by volunteers, with proceeds going to worthy causes that make a difference in the community.

 

Walsall Council staff take on Snowdon for James Brindley Foundation

Members of Walsall Council’s Youth Justice Service team will be climbing Snowdon this weekend to raise money for the James Brindley Foundation.

A team of 11 will take on the ‘Pyg Track, an 11km, six-hour ascent to the top of the mountain.

Funds raised will go towards helping tackle the causes of youth violence.

The James Brindley Foundation was set up in 2017 following the death of the Aldridge teenager who was stabbed in the heart while walking home.

“I’ve spent a fair amount of time speaking with Mark Brindley to understand his experience of the justice system and try and imagine what it must have been like for him and his family,” said Phil Rutherford, Youth Justice Service Strategic Lead.

“For me, Mark and the James Brindley Foundation serve as a great inspiration and we as a team wanted to play some role in the great work they do.

“We are having a bit of competition as a team to see who can raise the most money, and any donations would be greatly appreciated.”
